Don't bring army into politics:Rajnath on Rahul's comments
Patna, Nov. 6 -- Defence minister Rajnath Singh on Wednesday accused Lok Sabha Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi of attempting to "create anarchy" following his remarks that the army is "under the control of 10% of the country's population", as he cautioned the Congress MP to "not drag the army into politics".
Addressing rallies in Banka and Jamui constituencies in poll-bound Bihar, Singh said that soldiers have "only one religion, that religion is 'Sainya Dharma'", adding that the armed forces have "raised India's head high through bravery and valour".
"Our army soldiers have only one religion. That religion is 'Sainya Dharma'. There is no other religion besides this," Singh said. "Don't drag our army into politics. Whenever this country has faced a crisis, our soldiers have raised India's head high by demonstrating their bravery and valour."
Singh's criticisms come a day after the Congress MP, during a rally in Kutumba, claimed that the army is "under the control of 10% of the country's population", further stating that Dalits, backward classes, and minorities, who he said make up 90% of India's population, are largely absent from positions of influence. "Take out the list of the 500 biggest companies, and search for Dalits, Extremely Backward Classes, Mahadalits, minorities, Adivasis in them. You will not find anyone. You won't find a single one. All of them come from the 10% population," Gandhi said on Tuesday. "All the bank wealth goes to them. All the jobs go to them. They get a place in the bureaucracy. Look at the judiciary. They get everything there too. They have control over the army. And the 90% population, you will not find them anywhere."
In response to Gandhi's remarks, Singh said that "politics of caste, sect, and religion has caused great harm to the country". "...Our thinking is that all sections of society should be uplifted. We aim to include all sections of society. We do not want to discriminate based on caste, sect, or religion," he added.
Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) chief Chirag Paswan termed Gandhi's remarks "shameful and unfortunate", emphasising that the army should not be viewed through the lens of caste or religion, as it is an institution that serves the nation as a whole. He stated that dividing the army on the basis of caste is not good and such remarks "insult the army".
Speaking to reporters in Patna, the Union minister said, "The army is a subject that should not be politicised. He has insulted the soldiers. This is not only shameful but also unfortunate. If this is the LoP's thinking, who is viewing our army in terms of caste and religion, what could be more unfortunate than this."
Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra defended her brother Rahul's comments, saying he has not said anything that will insult the army and that he always wants the well-being of the military.
"My brother did not say anything that would insult the Army.
He will never say such My brother wants the well-being of the military and is a devotee of this country. He stands up against these people; he is fearless and shows the truth to the entire nation," the Wayanad MP said....
