LUCKNOW, July 14 -- A 50-year-old domestic help was arrested from the India-Nepal border in Bahraich on Saturday night, hours after he allegedly committed theft at a doctor's clinic in the Mahanagar area of Lucknow. The accused, identified as Michel Kapoor, was found with Rs 1.47 lakh in cash and jewellery, all of which has been recovered, police said on Sunday. Dr Lubna Kamal, the complainant, informed police that the accused had been working for her for the past six months and had broken into her home-based clinic at B-70, Channilal intersection on Friday night. Following the FIR, police registered a case under Sections 306/324(4)/331(4) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and launched a search operation. A team led by inspector Utkarsh Tripathi accessed CCTV footage confirming Michel's involvement. Using electronic surveillance, the accused was traced to Rupaidiha in Bahraich, close to the Nepal border. Police reached the location and intercepted Michel in a rented Innova before he could cross the border. From his possession, officers recovered Rs 1,47,030 in cash, a yellow metal necklace, white metal anklets, earrings, nose rings, rings, a white metal box, four wristwatches, and a white metal Rs 20 commemorative coin. The accused, brought back to Lucknow, is now in legal custody at the Mahanagar police station. During questioning, Michel allegedly confessed to the crime and said he had planned to escape to Nepal to avoid arrest.
