Lucknow, Aug. 19 -- A domestic help and his wife were accused of stealing cash and jewellery worth approximately Rs.1.5 crore from a residence in Metrocity, Paper Mill Colony, Lucknow. Police registered an FIR late on Sunday evening. The accused, Jitendra Pandit, 43, and his wife, Vibha Devi, 40, allegedly absconded with Rs.50 lakh and jewellery valued at approximately Rs.1 crore. The domestic help, originally from a village in Bihar, was employed by the family for several years, gaining their trust over time. This trust allowed him to become aware of the cash and jewellery kept in the house. It is alleged that he systematically stole cash and jewellery under the guise of meeting domestic needs and emergency medical expenses. Upon suspecting the theft, the homeowner confronted the man, who confessed to the crime. He admitted to depositing the stolen money in fixed deposits and purchasing jewellery worth approximately Rs.10 lakh. Additionally, he invested in real estate and transferred funds to the bank accounts of several acquaintances. He further revealed to the owner that he received guidance on managing the stolen funds from an acquaintance working in a bank, who advised him on opening fixed deposits and transferring money without detection. He also invested in various insurance policies. Despite promising to provide a detailed account of the stolen funds and their expenditure, the domestic help has been missing since the morning of August 11. The homeowner has appealed to the authorities for the immediate arrest of the accused and the recovery of the stolen property. SHO, Mahanagar, Akhilesh Mishra stated, "An FIR has been registered, and efforts are on to arrest the accused."...
