Dog tied, dragged, thrown into canal, two booked
Kanpur, March 19 -- A case has been registered against two people for allegedly tying a live dog with a rope, dragging it for several metres and throwing it into a canal in the Naubasta area, leading to the animal's death, police said.
The incident, which reportedly took place on the evening of March 13, came to light after a video surfaced on social media. CCTV footage shows two individuals dragging the dog for nearly 20 metres before throwing it into the canal.
Acting on a complaint filed by Mayank Tripathi of the Ummeed Ek Kiran organisation, police lodged an FIR under the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, 1960, and initiated an investigation. According to the complaint, one of the accused has been identified as Jitendra Singh, a resident of Hanspuram, who was seen in the video along with another youth.
ACP, Naubasta, Ranjit Kumar, said efforts are underway to trace the accused using CCTV footage and other evidence.
Police said further action will be taken based on the findings of the investigation. htc...
