Docs gain ventilator skills to save critical patients faster
LUCKNOW, Aug. 11 -- Over 80 doctors, including 20 senior physicians from government hospitals, underwent hands-on mechanical ventilation training at a workshop jointly organised by the Society of Acute Care, Trauma and Emergency Medicine (SACTEM) and the Sanjay Gandhi Postgraduate Institute of Medical Sciences (SGPGIMS) on Saturday.
While ventilators are available in most district hospitals and medical colleges, such as Balrampur and Lokbandhu, many doctors lack the practical skills to operate them effectively. This gap poses a challenge during emergencies, trauma cases, and ICU admissions, said organisers, adding that the workshop aimed to ensure better utilisation of existing equipment.
Dr LD Mishra, state nodal officer, emergency and trauma services, along with senior faculty including Dr Banani Poddar, Dr RK Singh, and Dr SS Tripathi, said, SACTEM provided full scholarships to 20 senior government doctors nominated by the state's health and education departments. "We have trained over 500 government doctors free of cost so far," Dr Lokendra Gupta, founder-president of SACTEM, said. "It's time that ventilator training becomes mandatory for anyone working in emergency or trauma units."
The workshop included hands-on sessions, real-case simulations, and scenario-based learning. Organisers Dr OP Sanjeev, Dr Prateek Singh Bais, and Dr Tapas Kumar Singh said the focus was on grassroots application, particularly for doctors from district and secondary care hospitals, so rural and underserved areas also benefit.htc...
