Agra, May 8 -- The anti-corruption team arrested a doctor for allegedly extorting money from successful candidates of the recently declared results of the Uttar Pradesh Police Constable Recruitment Examination 2023. The doctor allegedly threatened to disqualify candidates during their medical examination unless they paid him bribes. "Information was being received about the misconduct of a doctor on the medical panel assigned to examine and certify candidates who cleared the written exam for the UP Police Constable Recruitment 2023," said SSP Mathura, Shlok Kumar. The accused, Dr Hari Narain Pathak, allegedly extorted money by threatening to fail candidates in the medical examination. Action was taken at Prabhakar Hospital in Mathura, which is registered in the name of his wife. She was also arrested for allegedly destroying evidence by burning documents during the police raid, Kumar added. Police recovered Rs 1.3 lakh in cash from Dr Pathak, along with six mobile phones containing candidate details. Two others-driver Jaipal and a middleman named Mathuresh-were also arrested. All four were produced before a Mathura court and sent to jail on Tuesday, as per court orders. SSP Kumar confirmed that Dr Pathak, who was serving as a medical officer at the District Hospital in Mathura, has now been removed from the panel responsible for issuing medical certificates to police constable aspirants.
