DM reiterates bid to root out organised beggary
LUCKNOW, May 23 -- Highlighting the administration's bid to dismantle the economics that helps organised beggary sustain in Lucknow, district magistrate (DM) Vishak G on Thursday reiterated his resolve to root out the menace. The district authorities have initiated a crackdown against organised beggary, urging officials in neighbouring regions to assist in identifying and rehabilitating alm-seekers trafficked into the state capital.

The individuals involved are sometimes controlled by handlers who collect a portion of their earnings.Efforts to shift beggars to shelters are often met with resistance and aggression. "There have been cases where officials trying to help them were verbally abused or physically attacked," an officer said.
Officials said plans are underway to enhance surveillance at city entry points to crack down on transporters ferrying beggars into the state capital. Stern legal action is also being considered against those running or benefiting from these exploitative networks....
