PATNA, Oct. 30 -- After violent protests against Munger district police by thousands of residents angered by this week's police shooting in which a teenager was killed, the Election Commission of India (EC) on Thursday ordered the immediate removal of superintendent of police (SP) Lipi Singh and district magistrate Rajesh Meena. The commission also ordered an inquiry into the police firing on a procession during Durga idol immersion on the intervening night of Monday and Tuesday and subsequent protests against the police.

An 18-year-old, identified as Anurag Kumar Poddar, was killed and nine persons were seriously injured in the police shooting. Residents have blamed the SP for the indent.
