VARANASI, May 19 -- Upset over alleged harassment by his wife and in-laws, a divyang teacher committed suicide by hanging from a tree in a garden in a locality under Kotwali police station area in Ghazipur district on May 16, police said. According to police, the teacher, a resident of Sitapur district, had tied the knot with a woman from Ghazipur in 2023. On receiving the information, the police reached the spot and recovered a mobile phone from near the body in which the deceased had recorded a video accusing his wife and mother-in-law for his death. Circle officer, Ghazipur Sadar, Shekhar Sengar said that on May 16, an information was received at Kotwali police station that a person committed suicide by hanging himself from a tree in a park. Sengar said, further probe revealed the strained relationship between the deceased and his wife. As result of the dispute, he committed suicide. Based on the complaint filed by kin of the teacher, a case has been registered under relevant sections of BNS. Further investigation is on. The boy was handed over to the kin of the deceased after the post mortem. The victim's father told police that his son, an assistant teacher, was married to a woman from poor financial background. After marriage, however, she started torturing him instead of taking care of him, he alleged. The deceased's father said that despite taking his salary every month, she had filed many cases against him, including dowry harassment.
