Diversity is India's strength, not weakness: Badal Saroj
LUCKNOW, Sept. 16 -- Comrade Badal Saroj here on Monday said that diversity of the country is its strength and not weakness. "Today not only the Constitution or democracy, but also the tradition of the national movement and everything achieved after independence are at stake," he said in his keynote address during a lecture organised here to mark the first death anniversary of former Communist Party of India (Marxist) general secretary Sitaram Yechury.
The Lucknow unit of the CPI (M) had organised the event titled 'Challenges and our responsibilities to save the Constitution and democracy' at the UP Press Club.
"The country was built through integration and harmony. We have all the religions of the world here, all the major human species of the earth along with many families of languages. All these are collaboratively called Hindustan. The diversity of the country is not our weakness but our strength," Saroj said.
He said those who use religion to hide their failures neither know India nor are they familiar with the tradition of "Vade Vade Jayate Tatvabodha (It is only diverse opinions that truth will finally emerge)".
"Those who have come to power today were never involved in the freedom struggle. They have looked backwards instead of progressing, and have worshipped darkness instead of light. That is why they want to destroy the Constitution of India. They are not just enemies of the Constitution but also of what India has achieved in the last five thousand years," Saroj said and also called for a joint campaign to save India from them.
In his presidential address, former head of Lucknow University's political science department Prof Ramesh Dixit said: "It is the need of the hour to raise questions without fear as it is the only way to save democracy and the Constitution."...
