Rudrapur, May 6 -- The district administration officials on Monday demolished the house of a man who has been arrested for allegedly beheading his live-in partner in Sitarganj, Udham Singh Nagar. The house was demolished after a survey revealed that it was built on a land owned by a member of a Scheduled Tribe community, US Nagar senior superintendent of police (SSP) said. Police said that the 32-year-old's decapitated body was discovered in Khatima on April 30 after the accused, Mushtaq Ahmed, was apprehended by Gurugram police on the same day in connection with the six-month-old murder. "Following a complaint, the administration surveyed his property and found that the house was illegally constructed by his father, Ali Ahmed, on a land belonging to a member of a Scheduled Tribe community," SSP Manikant Mishra said. "The construction violated land ownership laws, and as a result, the house was demolished on Monday morning," he further said. "Police and administrative officials reached Gaurikhera village, located about a kilometre from Sitarganj, early in the morning amid rain, accompanied by two JCBs and an earthmover. The demolition was carried out after notice was served to Ali Ahmed, who failed to produce documents proving legal ownership. Authorities said the land belongs to Mathura Singh, a member of the Rana Tharu Scheduled Tribe," he said. "According to the law, individuals not belonging to Scheduled Tribes cannot purchase or build homes on such land. Hence, the structure was razed," he added. The murder took place in November 2024, when Mushtaq allegedly killed 32-year-old Pooja Mandal, originally from Bengali Colony in Nanakmatta.
