Disgruntled RJD Leaders Flock to Lalu's house, Mull Independent Run
Patna, Oct. 20 -- Dissension surfaced within the opposition Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) over ticket distribution, with many aspiring candidates expressing their discontent over denial of tickets and alleging malpractices in ticket distribution by party leadership.
High drama took place on Sunday outside the residence of former chief minister Rabri Devi and RJD chief Lalu Prasad when party leader Madan Sah created a scene by tearing his kurta and crying inconsolably over alleged denial of ticket to him.
"I contested the polls on an RJD ticket from Madhuban seat in East Champaran in 2020 but lost. I was expecting a ticket this time. But, the party denied me a ticket. This is unfair. I am a poor man and a dedicated party worker," Sah said, even as he alleged that some party top leaders had indulged in malpractices in distribution of tickets.
RJD women wing president Ritu Jaiswal similarly aired her grievances over the denial of ticket to contest from the Parihar seat in a social media post as she announced that she would file her nomination papers as an Independent on Monday. "I had lost the Parihar seat in 2020 by a small margin because of the 'betrayal' of the then RJD MLC Ram Chandra Purbe," she said in a Facebook post. Jaiswal alleged that the party has "rewarded" Purbe by giving the ticket to the RJD leader's daughter-in-law.
RJD state spokesperson Chittaranjan Gagan said, in a big party like RJD, there are many contenders for a ticket, but it is not possible to fulfil the aspirations of all. "If some people in an emotional outburst make certain allegations over being displeased for not getting a ticket, it should not be taken much seriously," Gagan said....
