Dhami unveils statue of Buksa tribal leader in Udham Singh Nagar
Dehradun, Jan. 3 -- Chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami on Friday virtually unveiled a statue of Raja Jagat Dev, a revered leader of the Buksa tribal community, at Roshanpur Dalbaba village in the Gadarpur area of Udham Singh Nagar district, paying tribute to his legacy of sacrifice, valour and cultural preservation.
Addressing the programme, the chief minister said the life of Raja Jagat Dev stands as an invaluable example of courage, religious devotion and commitment to protecting cultural identity under the most challenging circumstances.
"This occasion is not merely about unveiling a statue. It is a day to pay homage to the glorious traditions, culture and sacrifices of the Buksa tribe," Dhami said, adding that Raja Jagat Dev dedicated his entire life to safeguarding religion and culture. His life is not just a story of bravery, but a powerful symbol of self-respect, faith and indomitable spirit.
The chief minister said the Buksa community, which is settled across districts such as Udham Singh Nagar, Nainital and Kotdwar, has played a vital role in preserving its culture, traditions and identity despite various challenges. He said the state government is fully committed to the welfare and empowerment of tribal communities.
"The government is working with dedication in areas such as cultural preservation, historical documentation, education, health services, housing and employment for tribal communities," Dhami said,
He added that detailed research should also be conducted on the life and contributions of Raja Jagat Dev so that future generations can draw inspiration from his legacy.
