Dehradun, April 28 -- Chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami on Monday met Union Minister for Petroleum and Natural Gas Hardeep Singh Puri in New Delhi and held detailed discussions on ensuring uninterrupted LPG supply to the hill state, particularly during the upcoming Char Dham Yatra and the monsoon disaster season. During the meeting, Dhami requested that the supply of commercial LPG cylinders to Uttarakhand be maintained at 100% of the previous allocation level so that arrangements for the Char Dham Yatra can be carried out smoothly. He said the "annual pilgrimage, which takes place from April to November, draws millions of devotees from across India and abroad, leading to a sharp increase in the demand for commercial LPG cylinders in pilgrimage towns and tourist hubs." The chief minister informed the Union minister that hotels, restaurants, dhabas, langars and other establishments serving pilgrims depend heavily on commercial LPG cylinders during the yatra season. Maintaining an adequate supply of LPG is therefore essential to ensure uninterrupted food services and basic facilities for pilgrims visiting the four Himalayan shrines. Dhami said that during the Char Dham Yatra period the "state requires approximately 9,67,949 commercial LPG cylinders to meet the increased demand". He emphasised that the pilgrimage season is extremely significant for the hill state not only from a religious perspective but also from an economic standpoint, as tourism-related activities generate livelihood opportunities for thousands of people. The chief minister also highlighted that Uttarakhand faces frequent natural disasters during the monsoon months between June and September. Landslides, flash floods and road blockages are common in the mountainous terrain, which often disrupt supply chains and access to essential commodities in remote areas. Given these geographical challenges, Dhami said, "LPG plays a crucial role in disaster management and relief operations, particularly in remote hill regions where electricity and other fuel sources may not be easily available". In view of this, he requested that an additional allocation of five per cent commercial LPG cylinders-approximately 48,397 cylinders-be ensured so that relief and rescue teams can operate effectively during emergencies. Dhami also stressed that Uttarakhand's economy is largely tourism-based, with religious tourism, pilgrimage and adventure tourism forming the backbone of the state's economic activity. The Char Dham Yatra remains one of the most significant religious pilgrimages in the country and serves as a major driver of economic growth in the state. He further requested that the supply of domestic LPG cylinders to households across the state be maintained without disruption so that residents, especially those living in remote hill districts, do not face shortages during the peak pilgrimage and monsoon seasons. Officials said the Union minister assured the chief minister that the concerns raised by the state government would be examined positively. The Union minister reiterated the Central Government's commitment to supporting Uttarakhand and ensuring that adequate fuel supply is maintained to meet both pilgrimage and disaster management requirements in the state. Earlier, CM Dhami listened to the grievances of citizens who had come from across the state at the Chief Minister's Camp Office, Mukhya Sevak Sadan. He interacted directly with the public, took their concerns seriously, and resolved several cases on the spot. The chief minister issued directions for swift action on matters related to roads, drinking water, healthcare, education, and financial assistance. He instructed officials to ensure time-bound and effective disposal of public grievances on a priority basis.
