Dhalla rejects claims of Indian meddling
India, Feb. 22 -- Indo-Canadian Liberal leadership candidate Ruby Dhalla condemned efforts to "discredit" her as "unacceptable" after Canadian media, citing unnamed party sources, alleged Indian interference in her campaign. That allegation was made by the outlets The Globe and Mail on Thursday, which said the Liberal Party had sent questions to Dhalla's which included those pertaining to the "possible foreign interference in her leadership campaign from the Indian government of Prime Minister Narendra Modi." However, the Liberal Party dismissed the allegation on Thursday, with a spokesperson telling CBC News that no questions pertained to foreign interference. CBC News hinted at her ties to the Indian government, citing her social media activity supporting Modi's BJP in 2017 state elections and a 2022 visit to Modi with a Sikh delegation. She told the public network CPAC she was "shocked" at the allegations and they were "completely false."...
