LUCKNOW, July 25 -- The Uttar Pradesh government has launched a comprehensive review of police recruit training centres (RTCs) across Uttar Pradesh to address infrastructure and mismanagement issues, said a senior police official here on Thursday night. State director general of police (DGP) Rajeev Krishna and principal secretary, home, Sanjay Prasad had a meeting in this regard earlier in the day. This decision follows a protest by women constable recruits at the 26th Battalion of the Provincial Armed Constabulary (PAC) in Gorakhpur recently. The cop said the officials concerned had been directed to rectify deficiencies and ensure quality foundational training with adequate basic amenities. These included uninterrupted water and electricity supply, safe accommodations, proper sanitation and security arrangements, particularly for women cadets. A senior police official said commandants were instructed to ensure the presence of women wardens, respect for privacy and a robust feedback and early grievance redressal mechanism. The Gorakhpur incident led to the suspension of 26th battalion commandant Anand Kumar and RTC in-charge platoon commander Sanjay Rai. Notably, a total of 57,121 new constables are undergoing nine-month training across 10 institutional and 102 district/regional Provincial Armed Constabulary centres.
