DGP guidelines to strengthen anti-human trafficking units
LUCKNOW, Oct. 9 -- A comprehensive guideline to strengthen anti-human trafficking units (AHTUs) across the state has been issued by the UP director general of police (DGP) on Wednesday. The directives aim to enhance the effectiveness of AHTUs in investigating and preventing human trafficking cases, particularly those involving women and children.
Sharing details of the guidelines, senior police officials of DGP headquarters informed that AHTUs will be staffed with at least one inspector, two sub-inspectors, two head constables and two constables. They said the staffing will be adjusted based on the workload and crime situation in each district, and AHTU personnel will not be deployed for other duties, ensuring they can focus on investigating human trafficking cases. "The DGP has directed that the AHTUs will have access to necessary resources, including vehicles, computers, furniture, cameras, and wireless sets. Moreover, FIRs will be registered promptly in human trafficking cases, and investigations will begin immediately. Local police stations will register FIRs in human trafficking cases and transfer them to AHTUs within 24 hours. Cases related to human trafficking will be transferred to AHTUs for investigation, and the units will conduct search and rescue operations in coordination with local police," the officials stated.
They added that AHTUs will prioritise investigating human trafficking cases, and the investigation will be supervised by senior officers. HTC...
