Kanpur, July 24 -- The district administration has recommended withdrawal of recognition for 22 prominent private schools found violating the Right of Children to Free and Compulsory Education (RTE) Act. These schools allegedly denied admission to students from economically weaker sections (EWS) despite repeated directives. Basic Shiksha Adhikari (BSA) Surjit Kumar Singh has submitted a formal recommendation to the director-general of school education and other senior officials, including the district magistrate, divisional commissioner, and authorities of ICSW and CBSE Prayagraj region. The action follows reports from block-level education officers detailing non-compliance. Six block education officers have also been served notices for failing to enforce RTE provisions. "Despite multiple warnings, these schools continued to flout norms. Parents were turned away with excuses like full capacity or asked to return later. This is a direct denial of rights guaranteed under the RTE Act," Singh said. As per the Act, private unaided schools must reserve 25% of seats for children from EWS and disadvantaged groups.
