PRAYAGRAJ, May 28 -- Different government departments had demanded an estimated budget from the state government for development works to be undertaken ahead of Mahakumbh-2025. To make this event grand, the state government had allocated the estimated budget without any delay. After the fair ended, when the actual cost of the construction works was verified, around Rs1,200 crore fund was found to be left in the accounts of the departments. Now this amount is being returned to the state government. This amount is about 20% of the Rs 4,700 crore given by the government for the development of infrastructure in the run up to the mega 45-day religious fair, officials said. "After verification of the development works done for Mahakumbh-2025, about Rs1,200 crore was found left in the accounts of various government departments. As per percentage, the highest balance amount was found in the accounts of Prayagraj Mela Authority. This entire amount is now being returned to the government," said Vijay Kiran Anand, Mahakumbh Mela Adhikari, while confirming the move. Many development works were done to make Mahakumbh-2025 grand. These included constructing 15 new road over bridges and under bridges (ROBs and RUBs) in the district, while more than 400 roads were also broadened and constructed. Guest houses, ghats etc of Prayagraj Mela Authority were also constructed as part of the preparations. As per officials, the details of the leftover amount in the accounts of the government departments were presented before Mela Adhikari Vijay Kiran Anand on Sunday. The tenders opened at low prices and the amount left in the accounts of the departments. In the amount that is being returned, the highest share, in terms of percentage, is of the budget received by Prayagraj Mela Authority, they added. The officers of Prayagraj Mela Authority conceded that the budget of 290 development projects was released in excess. This includes the works done by Prayagraj Mela Authority as well as the budget released to different departments including the Uttar Pradesh Bridge Corporation, Public Works Department, Tourism Department and Culture Department among others....
