Dense fog likely to return after brief respite in city
LUCKNOW, Dec. 30 -- The state capital on Monday saw a brief respite from cold-day conditions with fog disappearing by afternoon and the maximum temperature rising to 17.1 degrees Celsius from 15.3 degrees recorded on Sunday - the coldest day of the season so far.
The minimum temperature was 10.1 degrees, which was 2.7 degrees above normal.
On Tuesday, dense fog is likely during morning hours, followed by mainly clear sky later. Day and night temperatures will be around 19 and 10 degrees, respectively, according to the IMD bulletin.
The IMD predicted dense to very dense fog in some parts of the state on Tuesday. In all, 19 districts were marked in orange: Deoria, Gorakhpur, Sant Kabir Nagar, Basti, Kushinagar, Maharajganj, Siddharthnagar, Gonda, Balrampur, Shravasti, Bahraich, Lakhimpur Kheri, Sitapur, Bijnor, Moradabad, Rampur, Bareilly, Pilibhit, Shahjahanpur and surrounding areas.
Ghazipur and Varanasi (BHU) experienced a severe cold day as the day temperature was far below the normal. Bahraich recorded the lowest day temperature at 12.8 degrees, which was 6.3 notches below normal. Aligarh at 13.8 degrees was 5.9 degrees below normal.
Ghazipur at 14 degrees was 7.2 degrees below normal while Gorakhpur (14.2) was 6.4 degrees below normal. Ballia recorded a maximum temperature of 14.5 degrees and Varanasi (BHU) 14.9 (7.2 degrees below normal).
The five districts with lowest minimum temperatures were - Barabanki and Fatehpur 8 degrees each, Bulandshashr and Hardoi 8.5 degrees and Meerut 8.6 degrees....
