Dense fog grips plains, 4 hill distts to get rain
Mussoorie, Dec. 30 -- The state has been witnessing a contrasting weather conditions, with dense fog affecting the plains while the hills continue to experience relatively warmer and sunny conditions, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Dehradun.
Roshanabad (Haridwar) recorded dense fog over the past 24 hours, with visibility dropping to just 75 metres. Dehradun city also experienced dense fog, particularly during early morning hours, followed by mist and later clear skies on Monday. The city recorded a maximum temperature of 23.0degC and a minimum of 7.0degC.
Director IMD Dehradun CS Tomar, said a fresh western disturbance is likely to affect the western Himalayan region from December 30. "Light rain and snowfall are expected at isolated places in Uttarkashi, Chamoli, Rudraprayag and Pithoragarh districts from December 30 to January 2. Snowfall is likely at altitudes above 3,200 metres, while the rest of the state is expected to remain dry during this period," he said.
An IMD duty officer said moderate fog will persist across the plains from December 30 to 31, especially during late evenings and nights, affecting visibility and commuting conditions. "New Year revellers are advised to drive cautiously," the official said. The highest maximum temperature in the state was recorded at Mohkampur in Dehradun district at 22.6degC, while Pithoragarh recorded the lowest minimum temperature of 3.7degC till 8.30 am on Monday, marking the coldest reading of the season so far....
