Demolition in Dal Mandi political move: Akhilesh
Lucknow, Nov. 22 -- Samajwadi Party national president Akhilesh Yadav has attacked the state government over road widening in the Dal Mandi area of Varanasi. He alleged that the government was taking up 'political demolition' in the vicinity as it had lost an election in that market.
Yadav, while addressing a press conference at the party headquarters here on Friday, said that for many years, the BJP government has created a crisis for the traders of the Varanasi Dal Mandi. "Demolishing traders' shops is an injustice and oppression against them. This is not a plan to preserve history or protect heritage. This demolition is political. The BJP lost an election in that market, and that is why it is harassing the traders and causing them harm," he said.
"The BJP government and the prime minister had promised to make Varanasi Kyoto, but now it is seen that the government is harassing the people of Varanasi, taking away their businesses, and using its power to intimidate people. The BJP is adopting a policy of divide and rule to fulfill its political agenda," he added.
The Kannauj MP, who earlier met traders from the Dal Mandi area, said, "We demand that the political demolition of the Varanasi Dal Mandi be stopped. Many countries in the world developed and provided facilities while preserving their historical heritage, benefiting businesses from the influx of tourists."
He added that all Metros currently operating in Uttar Pradesh were the contributions of the Samajwadi Party government. "Even in Varanasi, the Prime Minister's constituency, the DPR for a Metro was prepared under the Samajwadi Party government, and a budget of 50 crore rupees was allocated," claimed Akhilesh....
