Delhi woman alleges rape in Haridwar under pretext of cure
Dehradun, Jan. 5 -- Haridwar police have launched an investigation into a case in which a man allegedly lured a Delhi woman to Haridwar on the pretext of curing her illness with an amulet and raped her, officers said on Sunday.
Acting on a zero first information report (FIR) lodged in Delhi, officers at Jwalapur police station registered an FIR under the relevant sections of the BNS, said Jwalapur police station in-charge Kundan Singh Rana, adding that investigation in the case is underway.
According to police, the victim, a Delhi resident, stated in her complaint that she had been unwell for a long time and was told by someone that she was under the influence of a "spirit".
During this time, a man identified as Sonu Singh would frequently visit her home. Police have not clarified the nature of the relationship between Sonu and the victim. Singh allegedly convinced her that her condition could be cured through a special amulet made in Haridwar.
The woman said she travelled with Singh to Haridwar on November 28.
After reaching the city, he allegedly took her to his sister's house near Jwalapur railway station, a police officer said, citing the complaint.
The woman alleged that Singh made her consume alcohol and raped her while she was intoxicated.
She added that after the assault, the accused repeatedly pressured her to leave her husband, causing her severe mental distress....
