Delhi weather forces flightdiversions to Lucknow
LUCKNOW, April 19 -- Sudden change in weather conditions in Delhi late Friday night disrupted air traffic, forcing several domestic and international flights to be diverted to Chaudhary Charan Singh International Airport (CCSIA) in Lucknow. Low visibility at Indira Gandhi International Airport significantly impacted operations, triggering a chain of diversions and delays, airport officials said, adding that normal operations were gradually restored overnight as weather conditions improved.
A Hong Kong-Delhi flight (RH-9457) was among the first to be diverted, landing in Lucknow at 11:38 pm. It departed for Delhi about four hours later after conditions improved.
An Air India flight (AI-2882) from Vadodara to Delhi was diverted to Lucknow at 11:30 pm with 138 passengers and seven crew members. It resumed its journey at 12:43 am.
Another Air India service (AI-2408) from Mumbai to Delhi, carrying 164 passengers and four crew members, landed in Lucknow at 11:39 pm and departed at 2 am on Saturday.
Separately, IndiGo flight 6E-118, which had departed from Lucknow at 9:35 pm for Pune, was forced to return mid-route after receiving information about a runway blockage at Pune airport. The aircraft later resumed its journey once operations were cleared....
