Delhi's third Ring Road to be opened by Aug
New Delhi, June 8 -- The six-lane Urban Extension Road-2 (UER-II), planned as Delhi's third Ring Road, is set to open by August and is expected to cut travel time between Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport and parts of south-west and north-west Delhi - as well as the Haryana border - by 40-60%, officials aware of the project said.
More than 95% of construction is complete, with sections through Najafgarh, Mundka and Alipur already operational. The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), which is implementing the Rs.8,000-crore project, shared its progress in a recent review meeting with Union road transport minister Nitin Gadkari, Delhi chief minister Rekha Gupta and her cabinet.
Delhi-NCR is currently witnessing road infrastructure projects worth Rs.34,589 crore spanning 594km, with another Rs.23,850 crore has been allocated for 128km of roadworks that are about to begin, officials said.
Originally proposed under Delhi Master Plan Road 2021, UER-II was later notified as a national highway to be constructed in five packages. The 76km corridor - 54.21km in Delhi and 21.5km in Haryana - is funded by DDA for the Delhi section and built by NHAI....
