LUCKNOW, Oct. 15 -- A total of 297 students were awarded degrees and 19 received gold medals across various categories at the second convocation ceremony of Ram Manohar Lohia Institute of Medical Sciences (RMLIMS) in Lucknow on Tuesday. The ceremony, held at Indira Gandhi Pratishthan, was attended by governor Anandiben Patel, deputy chief minister Brajesh Pathak and minister of medical education Mayankeshwar Sharan Singh. Ananya Eesh, who hails from Dhanbad, received two medals which includes the Chancellor's Medal and Gold Medal for Obstetrics and Gynaecology. She said that her mantra of success was consistency and interest in the medical field. She aspires to be an oncologist. Sonali Porwal of Lucknow, received the Director's Medal for scoring highest marks over the course. She said hard work and perseverance helped her earn the medal. She further said that she got 142 rank in NEET PG exam and aspires to be a dermatologist. Her father, Rajeev Kumar Porwal, and mother, Kanchan, are also doctors. Sonam Yadav, resident of Gomti Nagar, received three gold medals for standing first in the institute in General Medicine, Paediatrics and highest marks in last year of MBBS. She said, "my childhood dream came true after completing the MBBS course," she said. She aspires to be a dermatologist. Afsha Saifi, resident of Patel Nagar, Ghaziabad, received a gold medal in General Surgery. She said that she is the first doctor in her generation. She was good in studies, consistency and hard work earned her this medal. Her father is a businessman and mother is a housewife. Other meritorious students who received gold medals include Dr Upadhyay Aditya Chandradhar (Cardiology), Dr Vineet Kumar Mishra (Neurosurgery) and Dr Nandan Rai from DM/MCh courses. While Dr Bhanu Chaudhary (Anaesthesiology) received Prof Deepak Malviya Gold Medal, Dr Huda Siddiqui (Community Medicine), Dr Swati Saxena (Microbiology), Dr Kaushlendra Kumar (Pathology), Dr Siddhant Lohia (Pharmacology), Dr Shivam (Radiodiagnosis) received Padma Shri Dr Sabya Sachi Sarkar Gold medal, Dr Simran Soni (Radiation Oncology), Dr Akash Srivastava (General Surgery), Dr Animesh Gupta (Orthopaedics), and two others were conferred degrees from MD/MS courses. Governor Anandiben Patel also uploaded the degrees on Digilocker by pressing a button. In her address, the governor said that the progress of any nation is based on the health of its citizens, and this health is built on the foundation of strong medical institutions. She emphasised that medicine is not just treatment, but a combination of compassion, science, and service.
