Defunct society found issuing letters for govt certificates
Haldwani, Nov. 23 -- The Haldwani administration has discovered that letters recommending the issuance of government certificates were being issued by a society that has not existed for 18 years, officials said on Saturday.
SDM Rahul Shah said the issue came to light during a permanent residence certificate verification drive, when an applicant submitted a letter head issued by Anjuman Momin Ansar, Azad Nagar. "Verification teams found that no such society currently exists," he said.
During inquiry, officials learned Raees Ahmed Ansari had been issuing these recommendation letters from a shop in Sahukara Line, Patel Chowk.
According to officials, in a raid conducted on Friday evening, Ansari admitted to issuing such letters since 2007. Officials seized all documents from the shop and the Tehsildar has been instructed to file an FIR.
The SDM said records show Anjuman Momin Ansar Society has not been renewed since 2007, and its president and general secretary have passed away.
Officials have ordered a detailed probe into documents made under the society's name and have directed a case be registered against those involved.
"The body is completely inactive. Despite this, letters from the defunct society were being used as proof of caste, birth and residence, even though it had no authority to issue them...," SDM Shah said....
