MEERUT, Dec. 12 -- A highly decomposed body of an unidentified man was found hanging inside a locked, unsold house in Pravesh Vihar under Meerut's Medical police station area on Thursday. Police suspect it to be a case of murder, and initial findings indicate the killer may have used acid to destroy evidence. The body, believed to be that of a man aged between 25 and 35, was found hanging from a peg on a door inside a second-floor room. Given the extent of decomposition, investigators estimate he died six to seven days ago. According to police, the two-storey house was constructed by three builders and completed one-and-a-half years ago but had remained unsold and vacant. The main builder, Narendra Mittal, told officers he had given a broker, Bhupendra, the keys a month earlier to show the property to buyers. Bhupendra later returned the keys, saying the body had not been there when he showed the house to two or three clients. On Thursday, Mittal entered the house with a carpenter for minor work. The main gate, locked for a month, was opened-and an overpowering stench filled the area. Inside the second-floor room, they found the body. A forensic team was called to the scene, where investigators noted several suspicious details. They believe the victim may have been killed first and then hanged to stage the crime. Police also suspect that acid might have been used on the body-possibly to speed up decomposition, conceal injuries, or hinder identification-though this remains a preliminary theory awaiting forensic confirmation. SP City Ayush Vikram Singh, along with a police team, reached the site and supervised evidence collection. The body has been sent for postmortem to ascertain the exact cause of death and whether acid was indeed used. Police are now probing how the deceased entered the house, who had access to the keys, and whether the crime scene was staged. The investigation is ongoing, said SP City....
