Debt rising amid financial indiscipline, says LoP
LUCKNOW, Feb. 21 -- Mata Prasad Pandey, Leader of the Opposition in UP legislative assembly,
on Friday slammed the Yogi government alleging financial indiscipline, rising debt and the government's failure to spend the fund allocated in the budget.
Participating in the discussion on the UP Budget 2026-27 in the legislative assembly, Pandey claimed: "The debt on the state government has increased in comparison to the period when the SP government was in power. The per capita income in UP was low in comparison to the national figure. States, including Tamil Nadu and Maharashtra, are ahead of UP in Gross State Domestic Product."
"When the state government had allocated Rs.9,12,696 crore budget, it should also ensure that there is development in the state too. The SP government had launched a slew of the development projects in UP whereas the BJP government in its nine years' tenure has constructed few expressways," he further claimed.
"The state government allotted fund for various development projects in districts, but the irony is that no financial sanctions were given to spend the money. The result is that majority of the projects have not been launched or remain incomplete. The share of the Centre in the central-aided projects has also declined," Pandey claimed.
"The revenue collection projected by the state government in the 2026-27 budget indicates that inflation will increase and the state government will have to impose fresh taxes on the people," he added.
Pandey urged the state government to improve health facilities in PHCs, CHCs and district hospitals to check the rush of the patients to KGMU and SGPGI in Lucknow. The state government should also check the exploitation of the patients by private hospitals, the senior SP leader said....
