Deadline extended to July 31 for 53k power defaulters
PRAYAGRAJ, July 4 -- Over 53,000 electricity defaulters in Prayagraj have been given a final chance to clear their dues under the One-Time Settlement (OTS) scheme, with the state government extending the deadline to July 31.
Officials stated that these consumers had registered for the scheme but failed to make timely payments and were subsequently marked as defaulters.
Chief Engineer Rajesh Kumar confirmed the extension. Under the scheme, defaulters must pay the outstanding amount along with Rs 1,000 or 10% of the eligible waiver, whichever is higher, he said.
So far, 35,577 consumers in the city have cleared dues worth Rs 49 crore, while Rs 2 crore remains unpaid. In the trans-Ganga region, 15,000 consumers owe Rs 8 crore, and in the trans-Yamuna region, 10,288 consumers have dues of Rs 17 crore.
Notices have been issued, and power disconnection warnings have been sent to those yet to act.
All these consumers had begun receiving notices for being defaulters from the electricity department.
