DDU gorakhpur university wins environment champion award 2025
GORAKHPUR, May 25 -- Deen Dayal Upadhyay Gorakhpur University's Institute of Agricultural and Natural Sciences has been selected for the prestigious Environment Champion Award 2025 under the category "Champion Institution for Nature (Overall Excellence)".
This esteemed national-level accolade is jointly conferred by the Wildlife Institute of India, the National Mission for Clean Ganga, and the ministry of Jal Shakti. The award recognises the institute's remarkable achievements in the domains of organic farming, water conservation, biodiversity preservation, and community engagement.
The award ceremony is scheduled to take place on June 5 at the Wildlife Institute of India in Dehradun. Vice-chancellor professor Poonam Tandon praised the efforts of the institute, calling it "a proud moment for both the university and the Purvanchal region." University officials revealed that the Institute of Agricultural and Natural Sciences was chosen from among hundreds of nominations nationwide, owing to its sustained and exceptional contributions to environmental sustainability. Over the years, the institute has spearheaded numerous initiatives, the promotion of organic and natural farming through farmer training programmes, the revival of indigenous grain varieties, implementation of rainwater harvesting systems, and conducting large-scale plantation drives, planting and nurturing over 10,000 saplings annually.
