DDA begins cleaning of Kitchener lake
New Delhi, May 25 -- The Delhi Development Authority (DDA) has begun cleaning and maintaining the 66-acre Kitchener Lake near Dhaula Kuan, officials familiar with the matter said.
The Delhi Development Authority is in the process of appointing an agency for the year-long project, with an allocated budget of Rs.25.09 lakh. The effort will involve both manual and mechanised cleaning of the lake and its catchment area.
"The lake has immense ecological value but has long suffered from neglect and urban runoff," an official said.
"Most of the area has already been cleaned and desilted, and the remaining work will now be completed," the official further said. The clean-up follows a notice issued by the National Green Tribunal (NGT) in November 2024, in response to a petition filed by a local resident seeking the lake's revival....
