Days after office clash, I-T jointcommissioner suspended
LUCKNOW, June 5 -- Six days after allegedly assaulting a junior officer inside the income tax department office in Narhi, Hazratganj, joint commissioner of income tax Yogendra Kumar Mishra was suspended on Wednesday.
The order was also shared by Mishra on his social media handles.
The suspension order states that a criminal case is under investigation against Mishra, a 2014-batch Indian Revenue Service (IRS) officer posted in Kashipur, Uttarakhand. Pending inquiry, his headquarters has been shifted to Kolkata under the jurisdiction of the Principal Chief Commissioner of Income Tax (CCA), West Bengal and Sikkim Region. Mishra has been directed not to leave headquarters without prior permission.
The move comes in the wake of serious allegations by Gaurav Garg, a 2016-batch IRS officer posted in Lucknow. Garg filed an FIR at Hazratganj police station on Friday (May 30), accusing Mishra of launching a violent attack on May 29 during a closed-door departmental meeting attended by senior officials.
Mishra had refuted allegations while posting on his X handle. Based on Garg's complaint, police registered a case under multiple sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including attempt to murder, criminal intimidation, obstruction of duty and relevant sections of the Prevention of Damage to Public Property Act. Mishra, had meanwhile, taken to X, claiming he was the target of a vendetta campaign. Govind Narayan Mishra, father of the suspended IRS officer, alleged a conspiracy, claiming his son was framed for exposing uncomfortable truths.
A retired Air Force officer and advocate, Mishra said fabricated evidence and erased CCTV footage portrayed his son as an aggressor. He added the FIR was one-sided and his son's complaint was ignored. Mishra vowed to seek justice through higher authorities and courts....
