LUCKNOW, July 19 -- Mayor Sushma Kharakwal was accorded a grand welcome in Lucknow on Friday, a day after the city secured third place nationally in the 'Swachh Survekshan 2024-25'. President Droupadi Murmu honoured the Lucknow Municipal Corporation (LMC) at Vigyan Bhavan, New Delhi, for this achievement on Thursday. Upon her return, BJP and BJYM members greeted the mayor with slogans and flower shower at the Lucknow-Agra Expressway toll plaza. In Mohan Road (Zone 6) area, the zonal officer led a Tricolour rally to welcome her. Similar receptions followed in Avadh Square (Zone 5) and at Awadh intersection, where the private agency team members led by environmental engineer Sanjeev Pradhan formed a human chain. In Zone 8, the zonal officer, along with officials from the private agency, welcomed the mayor with a human chain. A final reception was held at the LMC headquarters in the presence of senior officials and councillors. The mayor announced that establishing a waste-to-energy plant has now become the LMC's top priority. She made this announcement during a press conference held at the LMC headquarters on Friday. The mayor said the proposed plant will offer a scientific and permanent solution to the city's growing solid waste challenges. "This plant is our next big goal to ensure sustainable cleanliness. It will help us manage waste efficiently while moving towards a greener future," she said....
