Chennai, Dec. 23 -- TVK chief and actor Vijay on Monday said true faith teaches respect for others' beliefs and promised to uphold the country's secular principles at a major Christmas celebration in Mahabalipuram, Tamil Nadu.
"True faith is what teaches us to respect others' beliefs for the sake of harmony. Such a faith alone is enough; it will overcome any kind of problem," said Vijay.
Following the ruling DMK's grand Christmas event on December 20, TVK became the latest political party to reach out to the Christian community, which constitutes more than 6% of Tamil Nadu's population.
The minority vote bank - 6.12% Christians and 5.86% Muslims - has largely supported the DMK-led coalition, particularly since the 2019 elections when the AIADMK and BJP forged an alliance.
Vijay, a Christian by birth, is seen by political observers as potentially capable of swaying this voter base - a risk the DMK is unwilling to ignore....
