Day after attack on CM, Delhi gets new police commissioner
New Delhi, Aug. 22 -- Satish Golcha, director general (prisons), was appointed Delhi's new police commissioner, according to an official order on Thursday, a day after chief minister Rekha Gupta was attacked during a public hearing inside her residence.
Golcha takes charge 20 days after Shashi Bhushan Kumar Singh, DG of Home Guards in Delhi, was given interim charge, following his predecessor Sanjay Arora's retirement on August 1.
People familiar with the matter said Singh's appointment was always meant to be a stop-gap arrangement, but the change was expedited after Wednesday's incident involving the chief minister.
