DAV College student killed in hit-and-run
LUCKNOW, Nov. 8 -- A speeding car fatally hit a college student near a bridge in the Hussainganj area on Thursday evening, police said. The victim, 20-year-old Aditya Kumar Maurya, was a first-year BA student at DAV College, confirmed Hussainganj station house officer (SHO) Shivmangal Singh on Friday.
According to officials, Aditya was riding his bike towards Hussainganj when a high-speed car rammed into him near the bridge. The impact was so severe that the bike completely shattered, leaving him critically injured.
An auto driver passing by rushed him to Civil Hospital, from where doctors referred him to the Trauma Centre. He died during treatment.
Police identified him as the son of Arpit Kumar Maurya. His father has since lodged a complaint at the Hussainganj police station. A case has been registered and police have launched a search for the absconding driver. "We are examining CCTV footage from nearby areas to identify the vehicle and the driver," said the SHO.
A 17-year-old boy died after his motorcycle collided with a parked bus near a private school in the Aashiyana area of the city on Friday morning, police said.
The deceased, identified as Vaibhav Kumar Jha, a class 11 student of a private school and resident of Madhuvan Nagar in Alambagh, was riding the bike with his friend Shashwat Dev Gautam, a fellow student, in the pillion seat when the accident took place.
According to police, both were returning to school when their bike rammed into a bus parked on the roadside near the campus. Both sustained injuries in the collision.
Police and the school staff rushed them to Lok Bandhu Hospital, where doctors declared Vaibhav dead on arrival. Shashwat Shashwat suffered minor injuries and was discharged after receiving first aid.
A family member said the bike had been gifted to Vaibhav on his birthday just three weeks ago.
Aashiyana police station station house officer (SHO) Kshatrpal said the family did not wish to file a complaint and the body was handed over to them after postmortem.
