Daughter-in-law cooks up story about jewellery theft, held
PRAYAGRAJ, Oct. 5 -- The daughter-in-law of a house in Bahuta village, under Kotwali area of Pratapgarh district, who had accused two men of robbing her house last Monday, turned out to be the perpetrator. Police arrested her and also recovered the missing jewellery.
Ranjeet, a resident of the village, had built a house near an orchard in the village. He had gone with his mother, Raj Kali, to withdraw money from a bank in Patti town last Monday. On returning home from Patti, his wife, Jaya Sharma, informed him of the robbery and how two men held her hostage. She said that two young men on a bike approached the house and gagged her mouth besides tying her hands. After that the robbers broke the lock of her sister-in-law's trunk. As soon as news of this daylight robbery spread, the superintendent of police and the additional superintendent of police arrived at the scene of the incident. Villagers also believed what the woman said.
However, things took a turn when her brother-in-law and sister-in-law returned to the village from Ghaziabad. They began to suspect her.
Meanwhile, the police caught her while she was trying to hide the stolen jewelry. They recovered a mangalsutra, earrings, a ring, anklets, toe rings, and a small mangalsutra. The accused woman was sent to jail....
