Dalit girl alleges rape, forced conversion; two booked
PRAYAGRAJ, July 13 -- A Dalit girl from a village under Mauaima police station limits has filed a complaint against two men, alleging rape, forced religious conversion, and wrongful confinement. Police have registered a case and launched an investigation.
Station house officer (SHO) of Mauaima, Pankaj Awasthi, said a case has been registered against both the accused and that further investigations are underway.
According to the complaint, the girl became acquainted with a man over the phone who allegedly identified himself as Azad Singh.
She alleged that the man, who is Muslim, hid his religious identity and later took her to Chandigarh, where he allegedly converted her religion, gave her a new name, and sexually assaulted her.
She further alleged that the man and his father allegedly forged documents, including a fake Aadhaar card, confined her at home, and subjected her to physical and mental abuse. The complaint also stated that she was allegedly forced to undergo an abortion after becoming pregnant.
Based on the complaint, an FIR was lodged on Saturday against Ejaz, a resident of Kiraon village, and his father, Munna alias Fateh. They have been booked under sections related to rape, forced abortion, assault, wrongful confinement, religious conversion, and provisions of the SC/ST Act....
