VARANASI, Jan. 8 -- Work on the Dal Mandi Road-widening project has been expedited by the administration. The demolition of two buildings, which were acquired for the road-widening project, began on Wednesday amidst heavy police presence. PWD executive engineer KK Singh said that demolition work on around five buildings is planned. As part of that, the demolition work was started on two buildings numbered CK 39/5 and CK 43/113G. So far, more than 40 buildings have been acquired for the project. The around-650-meter-long Dal Mandi Road will be widened to 17.5 meters from six meters under the project. Around 187 buildings were identified for acquisition for the project, out of which, 40 buildings have been acquired so far.
