Cyclonic storm wreaks havoc in Kaushambi, damages power infrastructure
PRAYAGRAJ, May 22 -- A powerful cyclonic storm accompanied by heavy rain and strong winds swept through Kaushambi and surrounding areas late Tuesday night, causing widespread damage to trees, homes, and power infrastructure.
The storm, which began around 1:30 am, lasted until approximately 3:00 am, leaving behind a trail of destruction. Dozens of trees were uprooted, tin roofs were blown off homes, and several concrete structures were damaged due to falling trees. Overhead power lines and electricity poles were also badly affected.
In Rasulpur Badle village, under the Sandeepan Ghat police station area, a large Peepal tree fell on a house, completely destroying it and injuring four residents who were trapped under the debris. Locals rushed to the scene, rescued the injured, and transported them to the medical college for treatment. Fortunately, no fatalities were reported.
Electricity supply was severely impacted. In Manjhanpur tehsil alone, nearly 250 poles were damaged, cutting off power to around 50 villages. In the district headquarters area, around 55 poles were reported damaged. Restoration work began early Wednesday on the orders of executive engineer Ramkumar Kushwaha, who confirmed that power supply had been partially restored to 20 villages by the evening. He assured that full restoration would be completed by Thursday morning.
