LUCKNOW, July 11 -- A man arrested in a cybercrime case escaped from police custody at the Chaudhary Charan Singh airport in Lucknow on Wednesday morning, police said. The incident occurred moments before a Gujarat police team was to take the accused Arsh alias Harsh, 40, a resident of Lucknow's Vrindavan colony, to Tapi district where a cybercrime case was earlier registered against him, said the first information report (FIR) lodged after the accused disappeared. SHO, Sarojini Nagar, Rajdev Ram Prajapati said, "The accused was jobless and is said to be solely doing online fraud. As of now, Gujarat police have not furnished much details about the case lodged against him there." A Gujarat police team led by sub-inspector (SI) Dheeraj Raghavbhai Bathwar, along with SI KR Patel and constable Pavipul Labhubhai Ghaghal, had arrived in Lucknow to arrest and take the accused to Gujarat on a transit remand granted by a local court. The cop further said in the FIR that since the accused had to be presented at a court in Gujarat on July 11 (Thursday), railway tickets were also booked. However, failing to get confirmed tickets, it was later decided to travel by air. "On July 9, the officers reached the airport with the accused to board a flight. While going through the security check, the accused requested to use the restroom. Constable Ghaghal accompanied him, but while briefly distracted by his luggage, the accused fled," read the copy of the FIR which the Hindustan Times possesses. "Despite immediate efforts to locate him within the airport premises, the accused could not be found," the FIR added. The police have registered a case under Section 262 (obstruction during lawful apprehension or detention) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023, and a manhunt is underway....
