LUCKNOW, July 26 -- The Uttar Pradesh transport department has unearthed two serious cases of cyber fraud in the Aadhaar-based faceless learner licence (LL) system-one in Lucknow and the other in Fatehpur. Both incidents point to misuse of the online LL testing facility, prompting immediate action including FIRs, licence cancellation and a request for urgent software security upgrades. "In Lucknow, an applicant (Santosh Verma, DOB 04.06.2001) used an AI-generated video based on his Aadhaar photo to clear the online LL test. The face verification and liveness checks-such as blinking or smiling-were bypassed using this deepfake video. The system flagged the test as suspicious due to the absence of eye movement," transport commissioner Brajesh Narain Singh said. In the Fatehpur case, he said, a blatant software intrusion was exposed where the applicant's name appeared as "FROUD SALE" and the father's name as "PAYMENT MAT KAR ASRE," suggesting deliberate hacking of the NIC-run Sarathi platform. "We have ordered immediate cancellation of both learner licences, registration of FIRs under BNS and IT Act, a report to NIC and MoRTH for urgent tech fixes including OTP login, enhanced face/liveness checks and IP tracking and a full audit of previously issued online LLs across the state," Singh said. The department has assured citizens that such misuse will not be tolerated and urged them to report irregularities via the helpline or IGRS portal. htc...
