Crime Branch Cop drowns in city PAC pool
LUCKNOW, Sept. 27 -- A police inspector posted in the Crime Branch reportedly drowned in the swimming pool of the 35th Battalion PAC near Wireless junction on Friday morning.
Deputy commissioner of police (Central) Ashish Srivastava said inspector Ashwani Chaturvedi went for a swim around 8 am. When he was not seen for a long time, a search was launched. His body was later recovered from the pool and sent for post-mortem.
"No injuries were found on his body during preliminary checks. We are reviewing CCTV footage to ascertain the sequence of events," Srivastava said.
Chaturvedi, a resident of Ambedkar Nagar, had been living near Lekhraj Market in Lucknow. The incident was first reported to Mahanagar police station, after which police teams and an SDRF unit reached the spot along with senior officials.
Pool staff told police the officer had a daily swimming slot from 8 am to 10 am....
