Cricket fan returning after abandoned match fatally hit by car
LUCKNOW, Dec. 19 -- A 30-year-old cricket fan was killed after being hit by a speeding car in the Gomti Nagar Extension area on Wednesday night, hours after the India-South Africa match at Ekana Stadium was abandoned.
The deceased, identified as Vikas Kumar Yadav, a resident of Rae Bareli district, had come to Lucknow to watch the international fixture. After the match was called off, he was walking back when an unidentified car allegedly hit him from behind on the G-20 Road, leaving him critically injured.
Locals alerted the police, who rushed him to Lohia Hospital. However, he succumbed to his injuries during treatment, police said.
Using the mobile phone recovered from the victim, police informed his family. On Thursday, family members arrived in Lucknow, completed post-mortem formalities and took the body to Rae Bareli for the last rites.
The inspector of Gomti Nagar Extension police station said no complaint has been received from the family so far. "Further legal action will be initiated once a complaint is lodged," the officer added...
