Cow slaughter accused held after police encounter
PRAYAGRAJ, July 20 -- Manjhanpur Kotwali police arrested an absconding criminal wanted in a cow slaughter case during an encounter on Friday night. The accused, who carried a cash reward of Rs.25,000, sustained a bullet injury to his leg in retaliatory police firing and was admitted to the medical college for treatment.
According to reports, a bull was stolen and slaughtered around four months ago in Sonaran-Ka-Pura village under the Manjhanpur Kotwali area. The meat was allegedly sold by the culprits. A case was registered against five individuals in connection with the incident. While three of the accused had already been arrested, police were actively searching for the remaining two.
Five days ago, SP, Kaushambi Rajesh Kumar had announced a reward of Rs 25,000 each on both the absconding accused.
On Friday night, SHO Manjhanpur Kotwali Sanjay Tiwari received information that one of the accused, Awasab, a resident of Kanshiram Colony Samda was present near the Sasur Khaderi river and was planning to commit a similar crime. On receiving information, the police laid a trap and nabbed him. According to the SP, during interrogation, the accused confessed to committing the crime of cow slaughter....
