Covid-19 situation under control in india: government officials
New Delhi, May 20 -- The Covid-19 situation in the country remains under control even though countries such as Singapore and Hong Kong are reporting a surge in cases, government officials familiar with the matter said. Union ministry of health and family welfare held a meeting of technical experts on Monday to review the Covid-19 situation, they said.
"Recent media reports have highlighted an increase in Covid-19 cases in Singapore and Hong Kong in the last few weeks. As per the preliminary information available, the cases are mostly mild, not associated with unusual severity or mortality," read the note shared by people familiar with the matter in the government.
In light of these developments, a review meeting of experts from National Centre for Disease Control, Emergency Medical Relief division, Disaster Management Cell, Indian Council of Medical Research and Central government hospitals was convened under the chairpersonship of Director General of Health Services, Dr Atul Goel.
"The meeting concluded that the current Covid-19 situation in India remains under control," read the note. According to government data, as of May 19, 2025, the number of active Covid-19 cases in India stands at 257. The officials said it is a very low figure considering the population.
