New Delhi, Oct. 17 -- The Supreme Court on Thursday set aside an Allahabad high court decision directing the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to probe alleged irregularities in staff recruitments in the Uttar Pradesh legislative assembly and council, and advised constitutional courts to exercise "judicial restraint" in passing such directions. The top court order came on an appeal filed by the Uttar Pradesh government and the UP legislative council challenging the high court order of September 18, 2023 that had ordered a probe into appointments to various posts in the legislative bodies in 2020. A bench of justices JK Maheshwari and Vijay Bishnoi said that the judgment was based on 'doubt', 'assumption' and 'inexplicable details' relating to the master data prepared in 2020 by an external agency conducting the recruitments, and that alone was insufficient to order a CBI probe.htc...
