Rudrapur, Sept. 26 -- A special court in Champawat has convicted three men for possessing Cannabis (charas) and sentenced them to rigorous imprisonment ranging from 10 to 15 years. The court also imposed fines on the convicts, officials said. According to Vidyadhar Joshi, district government counsel (crime), the court of sessions judge Anuj Kumar Sangal awarded the punishment on the basis of the quantity of contraband seized on Wednesday. "The trio were carrying charas to Nainital district when they were arrested," Joshi said. The incident dates back to October 2020 when a police team from Reetha Sahib police station intercepted a vehicle on Parewa road around 8pm. Police recovered 2 kg of charas from Sunil Bhatt of Ranibagh, 3 kg from Yashod Mehra, and 1 kg from Vishan Mehra, both residents of Mukteshwar (Nainital).
