court seeks n.i.a response on mp's plea seeking expense waiver
New Delhi, July 26 -- The Delhi high court on Friday sought a response from the National Investigation Agency (NIA) on a plea filed by jailed Lok Sabha MP Abdul Rashid Sheikh alias Engineer Rashid seeking waiver of a trial court's condition asking him to bear expenses to attend the monsoon session of Parliament.
A special NIA court, on July 22, granted him custody parole to attend the ongoing Parliament session for 12 days between July 24 and August 4, subject to him bearing the travel cost, returning to jail in the evening and not having access to mobile phones to speak to the media.
Rashid filed a plea seeking directions to set aside the order to bear expenses for travel and other arrangements. A bench of justices Vivek Chaudhary and Shalinder Kaur, on Friday, issued a notice to NIA on the plea and fixed July 29 as the next date of hearing.
In his petition, the Baramulla MP noted that authorities were demanding Rs.1.44 lakh per day and had already raised a bill of Rs.17 lakh for him to attend Parliament. He said it was not possible for him to pay due to his custodial status and authorities were unjustified in imposing the fees....
